Angry Birds Day

Today started at about 10:30. We decided to head back to Ekberg but would go elsewhere if we passed something we liked. We found nothing so we went to Ekberg. Unfortunately, it seemed as though breakfast service had ended, so we ended up getting some sandwiches. We headed back to Market Square, noting that the pooped-on statues had been cleaned (“god damn shitting birds” in Max’s parlance).

The next tour boat didn’t leave until 1 (Sunny didn’t want another bike ride) so we did a little souvenir / post card shopping as well as a short trip to the capital, where we got to see the changing of the guard. Max bought some rum-raisin ice cream, which was immediately and viciously stolen by a flock of sea gulls. I now finally understand why “Angry Birds” was developed in Finland of all places, as these birds really just attack tourists rather than fish as we make way easier targets. Max and I tried some reindeer sausage which tasted just like generic sausage.

We boarded the boat tour, which ended up being quite cold with all the wind going on. I didn’t learn a lot about Finland, but I did get to see quite a lot of planes / villas / boats owned by rich people. It was starting to look pretty gloomy by the time we got back, so we had some quick food and headed to the hotel. We made plans to go to the sauna, but Sunny and I chickened out after we realized that it is a nude sauna.

Sunny then went her own way shopping while Max and I went to the grocery store to pick up candy and beer. Sunny managed to get herself free samples of ice cream as well as half a kilogram of cheese, for free! No need to buy food when we can have 17% gouda, 83% cheddar for free. We went to a mall and looked at their bowling alley, which had a real cosmic bowling with techno theme going on, but cost way too much (and Max and Sunny apparently aren’t very good). So yet again we decided to go drinking at a few different places. The first place was far too smoky for Sunny or I, so we headed to a neat little Italian restaurant.

The Italian restaurant had a neat system which charged everything to an NFC-powered card that you personally carried around to different stations and would pay for in total on the way out. I had a Mojito soda, which sadly tasted nothing like a mojito, but was somehow still alcoholic. We went home and to sleep. I read Callie’s upcoming book for a while - thanks for keeping me up, hon!
