Do Not Pursue Lu Bu! (a.k.a. No White Person Day)

Definitely need to enroll at Santa Monica College in Chinese! If I didn’t have Li here, I would totally be screwed. Today was relatively uneventful as we spent most of the time in transit or waiting at the train station or hostel. We took a 3.5 hour bus from Changsha to Zhangjiajie city. I listened to my headphones and felt less homesick and got through the book “Legacy of Heorot,” which, if you like science fiction and evolutionary biology, is pretty awesome. Once in Zhangjiajie, we took a taxi (which, incidentally is damn cheap at 10 RMB, almost less than driving my car in the US) to our hostel. They have a foosball table in the lobby, the first one I’ve seen all trip! Unfortunately, none of our Chinese friends seem to know how to play. We then rested for a bit and contacted home via Gchat. I also managed to get around the Great Firewall of China to update my Facebook status by logging in to a Harvey Mudd server and using X forwarding to launch a Firefox window. We then went to the train station to get our tickets from Changsha to Shenzhen (7-28). You definitely have to push your way through the line! Lunch and dinner were both acceptable affairs at around 250 RMB and 130 RMB respectively, although I don’t really like the tradition of having meat on the bone or with huge chunks of fat and skin. We also tried to use an Internet cafe which was pretty cool. All of the games were downloaded from a central server which made it very fast (and legal I’m sure!). We later contacted Nancy via my now non-restarting RAZR v3i (left the iPhone behind for safety reasons) and told her our cab driver story, where he thought Li was asking him how to find girls instead of the downtown area and turned to give me a knowing wink.
