I am testing the emergency broadcast system

I am just copying and pasting my SubProfile journal, for those of you who think a SubProfile is beneath you:

“The Terminator: I’ll be back. [8/03/03 1:19 AM]
Page: We’ve had to endure much, you and I, but soon there will be order again, a new age. Aquinas spoke of the mythical City on the Hill. Soon that city will be a reality, and we will be crowned its kings. Or better than kings. Gods…

Well, after a three-week vacation hiatus, I have returned. I’ll give you a chronological breakdown:

I worked overtime in my internship the final week, pulling about 48 hours (I think?) and obviously not counting all of them. But I had a project to do and it got down. The exultation at finally solving a pesky problem after 8 hours of blank staring at a screen and occasional keyboard pecking was extraordinary. Excellent internship, excellent coworkers, excellent ending. I got to witness my mentor’s project-ending schedule too - oy, he works hard and schedules hard the last week of a project. Up at midnight, down at 9 AM, up at 3 PM, down again after I leave (6 PM) - oy. Don’t think he left the office at all - he had his sleeping bag there.

Well, after I finished the final paper runaround for my internship with Troy’s office, I left for New York. I got up at 3:30 in the morning on Tuesday, crankily, and took a 6 hour flight which wasn’t all that bed (JetBlue service > Southwest). I stayed at the New York Hilton on 53rd and 6th (Ave of the Americas). Ate out of the local street hotdog vendor most of the time - cheap and good. Visited (listing) the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the New York Botanical Gardens, the U.N. building, the NYSE, the Federal Reserve ($70 billion in gold bullion - what a heist that would make), Ground Zero, the U.S.S. Intrepid (an aircraft carrier), and some other things that my deficient memory is forgetting right now. Great trip - other than annoying younger brother and an overbearing father, excellent sightseeing.

After my mother and brother left due to the end of her romance conference, my Dad and I visited Columbia U, which is fairly crowded. Then we took the train to New Haven, where we saw Yale (where I was most personally impressed by the scenery). Then on to Boston, where I first saw MIT (not as nerdy or ugly as thought) and Harvard (not as impressive as thought). Then I went by train to Rhode Island and flew to Nashville to stay with my grandmother, where I saw Vanderbilt U. If you want more detail of my personal impressions of the campuses, contact me.

After all this school shenanigans were over, I stayed with my grandma for about a week. Enjoyed her company, had a couple epiphanies, and really enjoyed the beautiful Nashvillian scenary. AND she has cable internet, which was great. Just took a Southwest flight by myself back home today and everything was fine.

Well, except one thing. Li wanted me to be at the movies at an unreasonable hour, so he pushed it back a little to accomodate the fact that I was arriving from out of state a little more than an hour before . But yes, I enjoyed the movie, and the company (mmm mmm mmm).

There’s plenty more that I left out, contact me and I’ll regale you with tales .

Terminator: [after inspecting John Connor] No sign of brain trauma. [7/06/03 9:47 PM]
Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve last updated. I guess I should update you about my life. Enjoy the following: it might be the last morsel I throw to you peons for a while .

School is out. For that, I am glad. I may actually increase my social knowledge this way . I recieved very good grades, and missed one grade by less than 9 points (IM me for the full story). Got my SAT scores back: Let me tell you I am more pleased than anyone to report that I have defeated the College Board utterly with PERFECT SAT scores. Take that fuckers! Also recieved my IB scores. 6 on physics, 7 on math methods (most unexpected my dear Watson). AP scores to come later this month. Overall, I am pleased.

In less tangible areas, my life has also been good. I’ve been going out most nights of the week with a couple of good friends (who happent to read this profile quite often ;-P) and it’s been a blast guys! Lova ya! And well, in the more tender side of my relationships, some progress has been made, but expect that to change very soon .

As far as my internship goes, it’s been great. I’m at Flying Tiger Development in La Habra (1901 East Lambert Road, if you want to visit). It was quite amusing to ask the first day what my hours should be, and recieving a “Well…10:00 is REALLY early…but I guess I can make it.” Nobody is in the office besides my mentor and I until at least 1:00 PM. It’s pretty swank, if I do say so myself . Free pretzels and unlimited soda and the nerdiest coworkers a guy could hope for! Hope you fools at Boeing and Raytheon are laughing now . Done a lot of work. Some pretty pictures (all you Visual Basic guys who think “I can do that” have no clue):

http://www.geocities.com/evil_robot69/rayTrace.jpg (3D! OH MY GOD! SOOOO MUCH MATH. FREE PARTIALLY USED SCRATCH PAPER AVAILABLE TO ALL TAKERS)
And plenty of stuff not shown above. On my own time, I’ve been researching my 3D stuff and also some higher physics and math that I never got into before. It’s really quite amusing and fun. Computer science truly is the catchall of all sciences .

In the just plain cool area of my life (which is all of it of course), I’ve caught up with the latest Terminator flick (not as good as the second or first, but still good) and saw Legally Blonde 2 (it was ok…). I was down at the beach for the 4th of July with my family and there, while browsing the street shops, saw more exposed female flesh than I normally see in a year! Boy, was I excited! And it also showed me how much I need to shape up. And yeah, I got blonde highlights for my hair…hehe. I’m trying to erase that nerd image from me - it’s a hard stigma to remove when it’s been a part of you for years and years. Hopefully this involves new clothes soon too…and just maybe the ability to drive (ugh)! I’ve also taken a liking to new music - the band Iron Maiden has great (heavy metal) music. Listen to Brave New World, 2 Minutes to Midnight, or Number of the Beast - all great tracks. Watch out for the RIAA though .

In two weeks I get to take a trip to New York. Oughta be fun. Then on to Boston and finally Nashville to see colleges and my family. Will be fun.

So yeah, that’s pretty much all that’s new in my life. I’m probably forgetting a few things, but hey, that’s the chance you take when you’ve got a fairly busy life. If you have anything that I just blatantly forgot, IM me and I’ll update . I’m just glad I have more to do than last summer.

Quien? [5/22/03 1:38 AM]
Boys and girls, it’s time for a romantic message from our sponsors. We don’t get these too often, so we feel it’s our station’s best choice to play them when they come in. Without further adieu.

“Who is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest person in the world? I know someone who’s close to it (or at least I think I do).

Someone who can renew one’s joy in living every day and instantly bring a contented smile to one’s face is worth all the effort that can be put in on it. If you read this, I truly appreciate all that you do for me every day, even unconsciously. Thank you.

And although my ambitions will never be realized, I can still admire the extraordinary character and intelligence projected through this person. Give me that much.”

Aww, wasn’t that sweet? And that’s all folks! Guesses and bets will be taken at odds of 2:1 regarding this matter. All approved loan institutions will be acceptable. Oh and, no comments from the peanut gallery, OK?

Fuck you. [4/24/03 10:13 PM]
Standardized testing…IB tests, SATII, AP tests, CAT-6 tests…ugh… School is really pissing me off. And Spanish is stealing my grade. Fuck off you happy people, go get your fucking reward and go fuck somewhere else and leave me the fuck alone. I don’t give a shit about your petty problems or your difficulties when you could give less than a shit about mine, with a hell of a lot more advantages than me. There’s really nothing positive to report anywhere in my life, and I’ll just leave it at that.

Speaking of which, there is plenty to not be positive about - friends ignoring me and pissing me off, nobody cares, an empty weekend, studying, an inferiority complex, and a growing concern that nobody cares. There seems to be an ever increasing “words without action” syndrome as it applies to some people I know.

Too bad it’s true. At least last year I had a defense against this sort of thing. I could live with it. I think that’s why I don’t remember much of last year. Hope this year’s the same. There’s very little I’d care to remember - programming contests are only once a year.

I can’t really blame them though; it’s part of these people’s natures. Fournell was right in at least one thing he said today, and right across many generations. There’s a lot to like in that man.

Go away. [4/03/03 2:58 AM]
I’m tired of words. I’m tired of bullshit. I’m tired of broken promises, stolen words, and fucking drama. I’m tired of being ignored when I’m not needed and used when I am. You know who ruins my good days and brings me to lower lows on my worst days? I bet you know. And you know what, I’m fed up with it. I have ABSOLUTELY no reason, no place of refuge while this person tortures me, consciously or through plain ignorance. Do you know what it means sir, what it means when there is absolutely no way out? My hate grows enormous, my sympathy minute. I can see the reason for everyone else’s hate. From now on, I am not on speaking terms with this person. Perhaps that will bring my life to some sort of happy state where normal people who don’t deal with arrogance, hypocrisy, and just plain out foul mannered people live. I pray to God that it will. Let this be an end to a friendship forged by stupidity.

I swear sometimes they’re watching me. [3/15/03 6:01 PM]
Sorry for the change in subprofile, the old one just plumb stopped working for no visible reason whatsoever.

The weekend…a time of reflection and renewal, a time to see what has happened this week. Let’s see, shall we?

I had an interview for my internship that I think turned out pretty well. I had 3 hours (!) of Lewis homework a night. I had FBLA on Thursday. I ate sushi on Friday. I got drafted for my church’s Easter skit. I am not doing as hot as I would like in Spanish but my other classes are nice. I am extremely stressed. I am extremely tired. How do so many others have so little homework? They need to die. Nobody can help me.

All my problems plus the tales of others do not make for a congenial Ari…

Meh. This week sucked, even though there were some perks. Here’s hoping next week will be better, aside from Sadies.
