Spring Break Blues

So Spring Break is a mixed blessing. I have nearly nothing to do, but on the other hand I have less than zero motivation. Quite a dilemma. So I’ve been messing around with things that are kind of fun, like Google Web apps!

Here’s a list of the stuff I’ve messed with so far:

  • Blogger. Duh.
  • orkut. Wannabe Facebook, not all that great yet.
  • YouTube. Linked my YouTube account with my Google accout, although I’m not really sure what that does yet. Added a whole bunch of favorites. Wish I could get a cool Google gadget to add to blogger that shows my favorite videos or something.
  • iGoogle. I have a nice shiny new homepage.
  • Google Calendar. Google just released this program called Google Calendar Sync which allows you to sync your Microsoft Outlook calendar with Google Calendar. That’s really handy for me on the go (when I get this iPhone that I’m planning on eventually)! It also means that I have all of my calendar dates since 2005 backed up online. Now if only they had some equivalent to my task list…
  • Google Reader. There’s a nice box you can see on my blog now to your lower right that has each of the posts I decide to share linked. It’s mostly technology stuff that I find interesting. I added my friends’ blogs as well as feeds from technology sites or blogs that I read regularly.
  • Google Finance. It’s fun to watch Google’s stock take a nosedive every day!
  • Google Translate. It’s like AltaVista’s BabelFish, but it doesn’t suck. Haven’t had a real use for this yet, but it should come in handy.
  • Gmail. Okay, so I really want to back up my contacts from my cell phone to Gmail, but I do not have the necessary software at home for my cell phone nor does there seem to be an official solution to sync from Outlook to Gmail. Outlook is basically the gold standard for contacts, tasks, et cetera, Google, so get with the times and interoperate!

I’ve gone a little Google happy I guess :). To be expected I suppose… I really should get on with the more useful stuff, like updating my resume and web site or installing software for my classes that I need…

Anyway, as far as my personal life goes, I’m going down to San Diego tomorrow until Saturday to chill out with some friends. If you want to hang out, just send me a message or something!
